| Zephyr-The-Zeph | Dec 2, 2007 1:25pm | I currently am nearing failure in a (Fortunately just starting Trimester).
So I ask you,
What is the humble Mathematics group's opinion on me sucking less at Beginning Trig? |

Well my good chaps, I'm afraid that I have no Asian heritage, and thus, Have to put significant amounts of effort into learning about Complex Mathematical hypo-structures with very little yield. So I ask of you, How can I increase hypothetical Knowledge yield in a similar time/effort dimension. |

Okay, more seriously, spend more of your effort on fundamental concepts. Go very slowly, until they're really straight. Keep doing it; it might seem slow as molasses, but it's the only way. There's stuff that you have to remember, but there's less than any other subject, so stay focused on the basic stuff until you know exactly what a set is (for example).
Trig is a big messy, so learn to manipulate trig in exponential form. Tricky at first, but a lot easier than remembering all those formulae!
For example, Cos(t)= (e^it + e^-it)/2, so...
Cos^2(t)= [(e^it + e^-it)/2]^2
= (e^2it + 2 + e^-2it)/4
= ½ + (e^2it + e^-2it)/4
= (1 + Cos(2t))/2
Meh. doesn't work :-/ |
